I had an extremely disappointing private voice-over class this week in San Francisco.
I specifically told my instructor at least three times what I wanted to get out of the class & the only thing I really did in that hour was read copy and then get shooed out once my credit card was processed and her other client appeared. It's not like this was some run of the mill company/teacher either; this company has been around for 20 years so I know she knew what she was doing (imagine Martha Stewart critiquing me on how I read copy for glad interlocking lid containers). I've been trying to decide what I should do about this matter (as it really let a bad taste in my mouth). Some say it would be pointless to write her an email and complain, but I'm still feeling as if I should have the last say in the matter. The fact that my presence was completely disregarded the moment her new client stepped in also turned me off to ever set foot in that building again. The good news is I became a member of Voicestarz and went through the entire CD today. I learned sooooo much more from them than I did at that other company ... it's amazing what a difference it made. I *really* hope I can figure out how to make this all tax deductible; it's getting really expensive and I've just begun! After this week I know that without a doubt I will need acting lessons (sorry, Pants - you were totally wrong there on that one). If I want to get my foot in the door I have to study and study HARD. This also means vocal (singing lessons) as well. *sigh* I might have to get a sugar daddy if this gets out of hand. I don't think I can afford all these lessons at once! :)
