Photographed VAST at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco last week. They were one of the nicest bands - and so incredibly polite! I'm always impressed when someone has nice manners; call me old-fashioned, color me impressed. Both sets were nearly flawless; Saturday had far more hardcore fans screaming (I mean singing) along to all of their songs as well as showing a lot of love & support. http://www.myspace.com/vast http://www.2blossoms.com/

![]() While cruising through Queenie's friends list today I came across Gloomcookie's trip to Tokyo Disneyland where she took a picture of this painting. HOLY CRAP - I would give away my firstborn to own this! I never really thought much of Disneyland (as stated in pervious posts) but the Tokyo park is absolutely gorgeous. More here. In other news: I missed the Mew show last night at the The Greek Theater in Berkeley. I am extremely disappointed in myself. It's not like this band is well known in the States. It's not like they come around every few months either! Damn! I will also be missing Harvey Danger at Cafe Du Nord due to the driving arrangements I've made once in Burbank. GRRRRRRRRR. Oh well ...Sean will be back I'm sure (*wink*)
I had an extremely disappointing private voice-over class this week in San Francisco.
I specifically told my instructor at least three times what I wanted to get out of the class & the only thing I really did in that hour was read copy and then get shooed out once my credit card was processed and her other client appeared. It's not like this was some run of the mill company/teacher either; this company has been around for 20 years so I know she knew what she was doing (imagine Martha Stewart critiquing me on how I read copy for glad interlocking lid containers). I've been trying to decide what I should do about this matter (as it really let a bad taste in my mouth). Some say it would be pointless to write her an email and complain, but I'm still feeling as if I should have the last say in the matter. The fact that my presence was completely disregarded the moment her new client stepped in also turned me off to ever set foot in that building again. The good news is I became a member of Voicestarz and went through the entire CD today. I learned sooooo much more from them than I did at that other company ... it's amazing what a difference it made. I *really* hope I can figure out how to make this all tax deductible; it's getting really expensive and I've just begun! After this week I know that without a doubt I will need acting lessons (sorry, Pants - you were totally wrong there on that one). If I want to get my foot in the door I have to study and study HARD. This also means vocal (singing lessons) as well. *sigh* I might have to get a sugar daddy if this gets out of hand. I don't think I can afford all these lessons at once! :)
Onion Horoscope for Capricorn
Capricorn (December 22 - January 19): You will struggle to live down a particularly embarrassing incident this week after you're caught in public with the rest of your small, backwards town. This frightens me just a wee bit ~ if horoscopes were reliable I would stay home all week and not hit Main Street! LOL. In other news I got me a real job (yee haw!), but it's in "town" (perhaps this is where said embarrassing incident will occur?) I have no plans to stay here in this area so that's yet another thing I've to deal with. It's better than nothing, and they offer benefits (which I so desperately need), so I really should stfu and be happy. It's better than sitting here stressing over when I'm going to get a call. I hate not knowing how much I'm going to be making/not making. I realize though that I've become addicted to working at home; the freedom is like nothing else in the world. Now that I will be strapped to a desk from 9-5 ... it kind of worries me. I like the fact that I could take off whenever I wanted (not to mention wearing my PJ's while working). And if I get more VO work I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to weasel my way out of the office to go to an audition without getting repremanded/fired. GAH. Always a catch, always a catch. My first 'private' voice (over, not singing) class is today and (as usual) I've totally forgotten about it. Something tells me I really need to get my head out of my rectal region or buy some form of an organizer; this is getting out of hand. Link of the day: Mozbots (oh if we could only have more than one)
Last year I started planning my trip to Los Angeles to attend Bat's Day at Disneyland [i.e. avoid the Mouse and do everything BUT walk through the gates to the crappiest place on earth] and it totally fell though due to my move and other personal reasons.
Well, it now looks like I'm going down south after all thanks to Karina and her big mouth [*grin*] I will be attending one night of the International Pop Overthrow this year at Spaceland to see Roger Joseph Manning Jr.'s set [and hopefully photographing it: waiting for permission]. The 8th also marks a whopping 15 years since I've last seen Roger in person [I barged in on his soundcheck at the Catalyst when he was still in his old band Jellyfish]. My geekyness is almost unbearable at times [**snickers**]. Ah well; it only proves that good music stands the test of time [this is coming from someone who spent nearly $300 to see a-ha in NY last year as well]. Anyway, after the show I get to spend a day or two in LA, then enjoy a nice long drive back up to the Bay Area with Karina & Gael; I haven't experienced that drive in ages. I totally miss roadtrips; this will be a lot of much-needed fun. Things have been so totally stressful around here I really need a diversion.
Monday I attended the funeral of my Grandmother, who passed away on July 19th at the age of 92.
Monday also marked the first time I saw my Mother in over seven years (since my Father's funeral). One can only imagine how completely traumatizing that was for me. I've been away for so long many people didn't recognize me. I'm not sure if that should hurt or be a blessing. 'The good ones' reared their heads and 'the other ones' behaved exactly as I had expected. All in all it was a terribly long, exhausting day. It feels as if it's still going on as well. I think I'm still in shock over a few events that took place and hope I don't have to deal with another funeral for a very long time.
Sometimes when I've consumed far too much caffeine (like tonight) I play this little game of "What I Would Do if I Won the Lottery" ~ you should try it; it works better than counting sheep.
What I would buy: A Victorian (preferably somewhere in the country) Either a 1962 Volvo 122, 1976 BMW 2002 or a Toyota Toyopet A daily driver (VW Golf) An African Grey & Welsh Corgi That's honestly about it. I'm quite easy to please. The rest of the dough would be to pay off bills, build my recording studio and pay for classes. I'm quite proud to say that money has never impressed me. In fact it really turns me off. Fancy cars? YAWN. Big houses? ICK. Fancy clothing? LAME! Mtv cribs? CHANGE THE CHANNEL! Perhaps it was due to the fact that while growing up my family never really had a lot of money. I learned to appreciate the Salvation Army, yard sales and clearance racks at a young age. Vintage clothing started appealing to me more as a teenager ... far more than what the other kids were currently wearing (although I was "called out" a few times during my short attempt at public school, I really don't think it had anything to do with my mismatched clothing and tacky Payless shoes). Tomorrow I will attempt to buy my first Lottery ticket since being back in CA - I'll let you know how it goes. :)
Makes you feel much older
Sublime the blind parade It wrecks me how they justify their acts of war They assemble, they pray Take good care of what the priests say 'After death it's so much fun' Little sheep don't let your feet stray ....
I’m finally back in California after trying my hand at living on the East Coast for over 5 years. I cannot possibly tell you how good it is to be back here where I belong. I was forced leave a few stellar people behind, but to be honest there really isn’t anything else I will miss.
I was always told of how great NY is, but it just never really grew on me. Connecticut was miserable with the psychotic people and the snow and Philly was far too hot & humid. California has everything a girl like me could possibly want; gorgeous weather (read: fog), intelligent / sane / creative / lovely people (not to mention thee best food you can’t get back East like Tejava, It's Its and sourdough bread) … so many things & people I’ve missed. It’s so so SO good to be back. I’ve thrown myself into a few projects since I’ve been back but nothing I can really put my hands on as of late. Call it laziness; call it lack of motivation / loss of a muse. I cancelled a trip to Southern CA this morning due to the decision to move into the city by September. I’m due to shoot the 2 VAST shows at the Red Devil Lounge and possibly the Harvey Danger show at Café Du Nord. I just haven’t had the oomph to pick up my camera. I’m sure the City will inspire me as soon as I get there… until then … *** Today I realized (during a short television break) that sadly I will always be Abby Barnes. As cheesy as that film may be I cannot tell you how much I identify with her character. Maybe I *should* get into radio after all ... "I guess I just prefer to see the dark side of things. The glass is always half-empty. And cracked. And I just cut my lip on it. And chipped a tooth."

![]() They say a picture can speak a thousand words ... and that couldn't ring more true in this case. Sadly I was at a horrible angle with a few taller people in front of me, so dodging heads was quite an annoying feat. All in all it was a lovely show spent with some lovely people. The trip was a success all in all (save for the annoying transport back). I cannot thank the boys enough for not only being extremely kind & gracious, but for coming back to NY (and to the States for all that matters). I've been hearing rumors about them not returning for some time, so I'm glad we got to see them when we did.
I've been asked to host a weekly show on Auralgasms Radio after my debut last week.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!! TBS just called; I just won the Sex In the City voice over contest!
JC's mom sent me the entry (because she knows I do voice overs). I didn't have a mic to record, so Vim taught me how to use my headphones and told me to download Sound Forge. I read a small script for Carrie's part and e-mailed it in a month ago. Upon looking at the details I get to go to Atlanta for three days (with a guest), do a voice over spot for TBS website (Grand Prize Winner will receive the opportunity to provide the voice-over audio recording for an animated character in a 'Sex and the City' Promotional Spot which may be exhibited on the TBS Website) and get $100 cash. Happy Holidays to me! Hopefully I won't end up being the voice of a chair squeaking or a dog barking in the background. I'm going to try and see what I can get out of this; I've been dying to get a demo together for a long time now ... maybe this is my foot finally stepping through the door ...

Friday was a blast! For all of you who couldn't make it, we really missed you!!! We started our evening at 6pm and didn't get to sleep until 4am. We met several awesome new people from My Space, drank, danced, laughed and tore some paint off the walls [lol]. I seriously cannot wait to spin again - where to now? Middletown perhaps? I think so! Keep an eye out for us, you don't want to miss out on what's next!
Lippy has added their sounds to Band Space.com; ![]() This weekend was also spent watching films; this afternoon during my shift I saw The Woodsmen and then, after JC came back we watched a film recommended by Henry Rollins called Primer (which was made for just over $7,000). "PRIMER is the headiest, most singular science-fiction movie since Kubrick made 2001." -Esquire [go figure] In the merry merry month of May I am shooting 2 bands, shooting a piercing session with Anatar & working with a new model named Tara. I am very excited to get to know her, as we've been throwing ideas back & forth about her writing for Girls With Glasses. I need to add more content to the site and see what other things we can do to make the site into a sort of a 'zine as well... too many things to choose from! Either way, it's going to be a very busy month; I can feel it.
Well folks, it looks as if we've finally gotten our asses in gear. This Friday is also a Welcome to the Neighborhood party for Augie (as he recently moved to New Haven), so we'd love to see you all come out and celebrate with us!!

*You wear your hair in a pompadour.
*You idolize James Dean. *You idolize Oscar Wilde. *You know the complete works of Oscar Wilde by heart. *You enjoy flower-arranging, especially gladiolas. *You are a hardcore vegetarian to the pont where you've written a song about why meat is...come on....say it with me... *You ACTUALLY SAW My Life With Morrissey. *You rarely ever leave your room, except to be snubbed by a member of the same sex which results in you running back to your room where you cry and write poetry in some ratty journal with a flowery cover. *Whenever you say the word "frankly", you always feel an uncontrollable urge to follow it with, "Mr. Shankly". *You wear black on the outside because that's how you feel on the inside. *You live, eat, sleep and breathe ANGST. ?Sweet, sweet angst. *You go temporarily insane and start slashing everything in your path with your car keys whenever you hear the opening theme music from Charmed. ?It's sacrilege, I tell you!! ?SACRILEGE!!!!! *Of course, you take your girl/boyfriend to cemeteries (where you're happy). *You've had your picture taken in front of the Salford Lads Club. *You've tried to get a job as a backscrubber at the YWCA. *You thought the chorus of "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out" was the most romantic thing you've ever heard. In fact, it made you cry. *You constantly find yourself in crazy PMS-like spurts of laughing, sighing and crying tears of anguish and tears of joy when listening to The Smiths. It's not a pretty picture. *You've got a Smiths quote for every possible scenario. *You know the names of a Smiths band member besides Morrissey and Johnny Marr (according to Marilyn Manson, this means you're gay). *Whenever someone says, "last night I dreamt", you automatically finish with, "that soooooomebody looooved meeeee...." *You and your boyfriend refer to each other as "Girl Afraid" and "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" (looks at my domain names & smiles).
Thanks to my new partner in crime (Augie), we now have our first gig in a month or so at The Space in Hamden! I am so terribly excited and cannot wait to get the party on the road!
After nearly a year of networking, planning, getting "sturdy" tables, buying a crap-load of vinyl, etc it's finally happening! Augie has many many awesome ideas for other nights as well, so this definitely will not be a one time gig. It's also good to know that we are on the same page here and have an equal amount of respect for each other. I only wish we started this a year ago!!! I'm glad Augie came to me and told me his ideas; little did I know that they were the exact same as mine! CT does not currently have an all-vinyl retro night, and we're going to be the ones to put it on the map! Augie and I have both heard numerous people say time & time again that that's what they've been dying to see here, and we're about to make their dreams come true. ................................................................................. Working from home is a real downer at times. I know there's something good out there that I can do, but I'm usually left with something of the adult nature (knowhatimeanvern?) So today I've started doing paid e-mails & surveys. I just signed up for a company called Hits 4 Pay. I've no idea if it's any good or if the pay is good, but I'll keep you all posted. If you know of anything along these lines, please let me know! I don't want to be reduced to more smut talking & stuffing envelopes!!!!
I just created a station over at Last.fm. If you're interested in hearing what I'm listening to, check it out;
